This July House of Shem – one of New Zealand’s premier reggae bands – land on Australian shores to take on their debut nationwide headlining tour. Traversing the country and taking in historic venues throughout an extensive schedule across the country, House of Shem will be venturing to new spots in Australia they have yet to perform in.
They take to the road with a selection of favourites from their debut album Keep Rising and 2011’s Island Vibration. Both records have been certified Gold in New Zealand and anticipation is building for the release of the bands third album, due to be recorded upon returning from tour. While June see the release of their monstrous new single “Hard Road”, a collaboration with American reggae-pop heavyweights Big Mountain.
Their latest offering Island Vibration was recorded in 2010 at Auckland’s Roundhead Studios with reggae engineering legend Errol Brown. Having mixed and/or recorded with the likes of Bob Marley & The Wailers, Burning Spear and Lauryn Hill, Brown’s expertise were perfect for what House of Shem wanted to achieve with their second album, completing sessions at the legendary Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica for an authentic mix.
At the helm of House Of Shem is Carl Perkins, a local reggae stalwart with over thirty years in the business having played with Herbs, Mana and The Twelve Tribes Of Israel. He is also joined by two of his sons Te Omeka andIsaiah, Karl Thomas, drumming prodigy Kaya Webster, bass guitarist Francis Harawera, Chris Nielson and guitarist Roy Venkataraman, a seasoned veteran himself who toured and played with The Wailers band for a number of years.
The House of Shem experience is one not to be missed. Witnessing the band perform as they weave together traditional and contemporary reggae shows us why they have won thousands of fans the world over.
