Tell us how your name 1929indian came about?
The Indian motor cycle company is the creator of arguably one of the most classic of all the motorcycles, the 1929 Indian. Brendy’s (guitar) dad has an amazing collection of vintage motorcycles, including a 1929indian which Brendy is and has always been infatuated with since he was very young.
What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?
Each member of the band has their own memories of when they first started playing and creating music. Mitch (drums) first played drums when he was five years old at the advice of his music teacher. Ruth (keys) played classical piano all through school just as her mum did. Brendy grew up in a musical household, constantly jamming in the garage with his brother.
Do you prefer the studio or the stage? Which and why?
For us, creating and playing music in the studio or on stage is all about doing something interesting that will truly captivate the audience. When a song comes together in the studio it’s a great feeling, but you know it’s meant to be when you can play a song live and hang on to the same feeling each time.
‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?
Most of our music taste has stemmed from the records that our parents listened to when we were growing up.Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures’, New Order’s ‘Movement’ and Depeche Mode’s ‘Violator’ are all great records that come to mind. These are records that are we can’t imagine ever getting sick of.
You’re from Newcastle, What other bands from that area are you currently vibing on?
Definitely love what the Seabellies are doing and we can’t wait for their new album.
If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have?
With the amazing locations and acts that are already presented by established music festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury and Fuji Rock festival it’s hard to think of a better setting or line-up. If we had to think of something amazing, perhaps a summer festival set on a secluded beach with less than 15,000 people and an unlimited supply of frozen raspberry and cola icees on offer.
If you could collaborate with anyone living or dead who would it be?
Jeff Buckley
What band has excited you the most from the last 12 months?
Big Scary or M83
Touring and recording can be stressful exercises and cause much tension, which member would win in band fisticuffs?
We keep fairly focused and probably get long unusually well for a band. But if it did come down to it, it’s agreed that Ruth would come out on top.
Self-promotion is all-important in music, what’s happening next for the band?
