We’re called Sures, we’re a four piece from the Hills in Sydney. We’ve been playing for about 8 months now and in that time we’ve done a few tours, released a few singles and put out an EP called ‘Stars.’ We just finished up a tour with Snakadaktal and now we’re just writing and demoing a bunch and playing a few shows here and there. Hopefully we’ll be able to record some of our new stuff and have it out at some point in the near future!
Matt and Beth from the band were kind enough to answer a little Q&A for us.
Your latest EP Stars was released in March – was it received the way you hoped?
Yeah it’s been good, we’ve come across nice things people have said about it on the internet. A lot of our friends tell us their mums like it, so I guess we did something right.
How would you describe SURES sound?
Emo vocals and reverbed guitars? The EP was written in early days while we were first working out how to write and record a song. We’re always learning and our sounds always developing, so hopefully you’ll be able to hear that in our new songs.
What is your band’s music the best soundtrack for?
Chilling.
Who/what are your main influences when making music?
Pretty much all of our songs are a direct rip off of Beethoven’s ‘Piano Sonata No. 14 in C# minor’.
You’ve been doing a fair bit of touring lately around Aus! What has been your most memorable gig to date?
Shows when the majority of the audience are drunk are generally really fun. Off the top of my head ‘Go Here, Go There’ at World Bar or Gov’s Espresso in the Gold Coast a few months ago was wild. All of our tours have kind of blurred into one and it’s hard to pinpoint one show in particular, but most of them have been pretty amazing.
Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?
There’s an electronic Sydney band called Fishing, they’re just two dudes with samplers and they make happy music badass. I think our guitars and their white boy rap would blend perfectly
If you could play any venue/festival where would it be?
Glastonbury!
How do you like your music? On digital, CD, or vinyl (maybe even cassette)?
CDs kind of shaped the way i like to listen to music these days, just that whole process of putting it on repeat and learning every word until you have enough money to buy a new album. But i love vinyl and MP3’s are easy.
Who’s on your playlist at the moment?
Earl Sweatshirt, The Middle East, Brand New, My Bloody Valentine, Atlas Sound, The xx.
What else have you got in store for 2012? Where can we catch you playing next?
We’re writing and demoing on all the time and right now we’re looking into how we want to properly record. We should be recording some new stuff in the next few months, so we’re hoping some kind of release will come from that. We’re playing at OAF’s 5th and FBi’s 9th birthday soon, and also a couple of shows in Melbourne around the middle of next month.
