D.I.G (Directions In Groove) hit the airwaves once again with the re-release of Clearlight, the Sydney-grown outfit’s latest addition to their already impressive discography.

The album provides everything to be expected from a band with groove in their title; soulful horns, bluesy guitar phrases, pinchy drumming and controlled displays of vocal expression… oh yes, there will be groove.

While the jazzed up instrumental style isn’t for everyone, the musicianship on the tracks will no doubt be appreciated by all. Tracks featuring vocalist Laura Stitt coherently display the working harmony between the songstress and her fellow expressive band members.

Upbeat tracks including ‘New Sense’ and bass-a-tonic experience ‘Bassick InSync’ cause a funky, uncontrollable toe tap – while further down the track list, epic instrumental jams such as ‘New Sense’ and ‘Obreon’ showcase the band’s full creative arsenal.

In a genre that many give little time to, D.I.G have proven that jazz and funk are still well and truly running through the veins of the Redfern musicians.

Clearlight, cleverly compiles everything the band has worked towards in the last 20 years and combines it with a cheeky taste of youthful flavor.
