Johnny Rock & The Limits have just come off their “Been Too Long” EP tour which saw them rip stages up in Sydney and Melbourne cementing their reputation as one of Melbournes “one to watch” rock bands. Explosive live shows are just the beginning as they charge through a hit parade of songs in their set: they are truly worthy of your devotion.

Not content in just playing normal gigs, they frequently throw parties to show off their party anthems. Not surprisingly they play host to a Halloween party to end all parties. Halloween on a Boat is 2 levels of bands, DJ’s and spooky good times featuring Red Leader, The Corsairs, Vultures of Venus and supergroup Benny and The Pheremones playing 60s RnB and soul hits. The party hits the waves on Friday 2nd November.

What’s the coolest outfit you’ve worn for Halloween?

I once wore a dress made of meat. It was so cool that people were copying it around the world, most notably at award ceremonies.

What’s the most offensive trick you’ve played on Halloween?

A friend used to live on campus at uni and with some mates set up a dozen shaving cream cans around his room. We locked them down with tape and blocked the nozzles with little pins attached to tread. We then booby trapped the door so when our unsuspecting mate entered the room he tripped all threads, pulling out all the pins and was showered with shaving cream. Pretty tricky but the result was priceless!

Is Halloween always a special event for Johnny Rock and the Limits?

Always! Considering that I look like a pirate most of the time anyway it doesn’t take much for me to dress up for an occasion like Halloween.

What was the inspiration behind hosting a Halloween party on a boat?

We like dressing up, we like having themed parties, we like boats.  Honestly I wonder why it took us so long to think it up in the first place!

Can audiences expect a particularly spooky set or something special for this gig?

Dressing up and having a boat decked out Halloween style is gonna be pretty special.  Can’t give too much away, but there may also be a Transylvanian surprise in there somewhere for punters to get excited about.

Are you happy with how the new EP Been Too Long has turned out?

Yeah really happy! It just captures a lot of our live energy which I think is really important as a document of the band at this time and place. We also wrote and recorded a song in the studio which is something we’ve never done before and it sounds great.

If you could have one special guest, dead or alive, appear on your first album who would it be?

Iggy Pop. He’s kinda dead and alive isn’t he? Like the walking dead! I think he’d dig rocking out to a few of our tunes.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

Todd Rundgren is a killer artist from the 70s who just did an incredible remix of Tame Impala’s Elephant. Getting into some 90s shoegaze like Smashing Pumkins and Jesus and The Mary Chain. But as the weather warms up I’ve been playing lots of local popsters Them Swoops. Love their summer vibes!

When you’re Rolling Stones Big, what are you going to request on your rider: don’t be shy. We want specifics!

The importance (and general lack) of healthy food on tour can not be stressed enough. I think when the stones got big enough to ask for whatever they wanted they would have asked for salad and fresh fruit. I think Tim Rogers said once that you know you’ve made it when you get fluffy white towels on stage to wipe your sweat off. I’ve heard Iggy pop asks for broccoli just so he can have the pleasure of throwing it in the bin. With anything in the world on offer I think I’d just ask for a jar of Nuttella. But to piss promoters off I’d ask for a single plum, floating in perfume, served in a man’s hat.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with?

I’d love to collaborate with the Yatch Club DJ boys. They have a great taste in music and make people dance. Pretty much what I like to do in rock form. I think mixing a rock band playing dance music is pretty awesome.
