Mimi Velevska’s strong, sultry voice is full of attitude from the opening blast of her four-track EP.
There is fury in the guitar licks as they hark back to the glory days of grunge and 90s rock. These influences are melded with catchy melodies as evidenced in the sing-along chorus of “I’m Yours.”
There are no soft ballads or introspective, wandering songs here.
There are shades of heavy rock with the slumping chord progressions, bringing to mind an amalgam of Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots.
There is also a Rage Against The Machine homage by Velevska’s tight and hard-rocking band in “Tears Sweat Freak Woah”, complete with the songstress’ sassy and melodic vocal tune over the top.
This EP packs a punch and leaves you wanting more.
It feels like a complete journey, from the quiet opening guitar to the full-on assault of “Bona Fide Electric”, while in the middle the driving funk rhythm of “Damn” encourages living room dancing.
This is rocking, passionate music that reminds you you’re alive.
If the energy on The Bona Fide Electric is any indication, Velevska would certainly put on a bona fide electric live performance.
