The self-proclaimed “dreamy coastal pop” five-piece from Perth are kicking some serious butt in the local scene.
If their debut album is anything to go by, it’s easy to tell that TV Snow are an extremely well-polished band with popping melancholic riffs accompanied by thumping percussion to leave any bidding drummer envious.
At a closer look, the band have a tragic tale to tell. The day after they finished recording their EP, bassist Ben Linden was fatally attacked by a great white shark whilst riding waves south of Wedge Island.
Friends closest to the musically talented surfer described him as “a ball of energy and ambition” and he was dully nicknamed ‘Big Red’.
With the release of TV Snow’s first album Red, he is now immortalised in the music the band will continue to share with the world.
The clear distinction between old and new material is prominent and very intriguing to hear.
The true stellar tracks are the ones which featured the original bass sounds of Linden – they have an uplifting positivity about them.
In contrast the rest of the cuts contain the subtle sorrow, and longing for their late bandmate.
Emotions aside, the general vibe and sound isn’t new but the sounds definitely grow the more you listen.
In a modern world where it seems everything’s been done to death, it’s refreshing to hear the prominent enthusiasm throughout the album Red.
