Hey there I’m Elizabeth Rose and I am a Sydney electronic producer. I’ve been on the Sydney scene for about 2 and bit years now, with my first single release earlier this year in January for ‘Ready’. I’ve been lucky enough to play a fair few festivals this past year starting with Parklife 2011, Harvest, Peats Ridge and Field Day….and this year I’m looking forward to playing Wonderland in Perth NYD, Cargo NYE and Falls for the first time too! I released my debut EP ‘Crystallise’ back in October and my current single is a collaboration I did with UK producer Sinden called ‘Again’. A video clip is on its way for it and I also just released an official remix I did for Chairlift of ‘Turning’. Early 2013 I have a collab with Flight Facilities coming out & also with another Sydney producer called Frames.
You’ve played some pretty big festivals this year, what has been your favourite so far and why?
Peats Ridge! I had a full tent and the crowd were really getting into it and dancing…I even saw some hippy dude playing with crystal balls as he was dancing…haha!
What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?
Earliest memory? At home, after dinner, for my family – I’d play this terrible song on my little casio keyboard (it was a latin loop preset) and I just kept looping it and fading down the volume as the song would come to an end…I feel sorry for my family to have to hear the same song every night ha!
My older brother Anthony definitely inspired me to start – he is a DJ/producer HooknSling and was the only sibling playing music when he was living at home with us about 15 years ago now. I remember being that annoying little sister who just hung out in his room watching him work on his tracks and asked him too many questions about writing songs and producing music. It looked like so much fun so I wanted to do it too!
You worked with UK producer Sinden for collaboration on ‘Again’, did this happen in person or via the Internet?
Both! Well, first in person – Sinden was out here for a DJ tour last October and he was looking for some local vocalists to work with and the lovely folks at EMI suggested me! We had two days in the studio together and came up with this track (which was a rough sketch at the time). It was earlier this year that I decided I wanted to use the track on my EP so we then began emailing and the track picked up from where we left it.
What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?
Hmm, a lot of songs really! I started Dj’ing back in April this year so searching for new tracks to play always gets me excited – I’ve gotten back into ‘Lady (Hear me tonight) by Modjo….such a golden oldie!
Do you find your new music through streaming services, if so which ones do you like to use?
Not really, I prefer to search blogs for new music rather than Spotify/Grooveshark etc I’m a fan of Hype Machine.
If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have?
I’d love to put on a festival! It’d be in the Botanic Gardens, the headline act would be The Knife along with other big acts Little Dragon, Four Tet, Gold Panda, Simian Mobile Disco, Classixx & Jonti. I reckon a crowd of 6000 would be good for this festival….and we would serve free wine (they had this at Secret Garden festival and it was so great ha), a huge oversized jumping castle (because I’m still a kid at heart) and there’d be a lot of great Japanese cuisine and dumplings and a food stall that makes those Dutch little pancakes poffertjers (mmmmmm)….there could be a main stage called the Bat Cave and it’d be this dark huge tent with a big lighting rig/lots of strobes….yeah!
Because we know you like collaborating, which living Australian artist would you most like to make music with? Tell us why?
Easy. Kimbra! She is so creative in her songwriting, especially her melodies – I’d really love to just collaborate and write a quirky little track that we’d both sing on and we’d both produce. Can someone make this happen please??
What is your music the best soundtrack for?
