The last decade has seen the hip-hop ethos in Australia transform from an underground and often neglected movement to a fully credible industry and a culture contributor.
We can thank the names on this release for that rapid change.
Featuring a who’s who of hip-hop players, the release is the first instalment in what will hopefully be a reoccurring compilation.
The release covers acts from across the country, from the cheeky Perth tailoring of solo rapper Identity Drapht, to the east coast collective The Herd.
A refreshing addition to the release is the mixture of recent releases, such as outspoken Melbourne rapper 360 and his Gosling collaboration ‘Boys Like You’ as well as genre bending duo Diafrix’s ‘Simple Man’.
The newer tunes combined with earlier hip hop releases, such as N’Fa Jones led 1200 Techniques’ 2002 hit ‘Karma’ make for a great listen.
The release does cover a wide range of styles from the clever lyrical passages in Muph And Plutonic’s ‘Heaps Good’ to catchy youthful feel in Melbournian Illy’s smash hit ‘It Can Wait’. These additions provides variety while staying on the hip-hop track.
The release will cater for both lovers of Australian urban music, as well as newcomers to the genre, in a radio friendly and catchy combination of hip-hop’s relatively short history.
