We are to music what the Goonies were to 1980’s cinema.
What can people expect from the Holliava live show for Rock The Bay?
Basically the punters can expect a lot of energy, a lot of emotion, a lot of high-fives and a whole lot of smiles. The set we’ve brought into 2013 contains predominantly new material so we’re extremely pumped!
Who are you most keen to see at Rock The Bay?
I don’t wanna be the guy that says the Beards, so I’m gonna go with Sleep Parade. I saw them support Porcupine Tree a few years back and they were moody and delicious.
What drove you to change your sound a bit after the release of your full-length record Stay Where We Lay?
Stay Where We Lay was a ripper, but it was kind of ‘take-it-or-leave-it’. We made a conscious decision that the follow-up would be hard hitting from start to finish.
Do you feel your latest EP Antihero represents Holliava’s sound or is it a constant work in progress?
Definate work in progress! We’re pushing ourselves to make every song unique rather than keep on drawing from the same well.
You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What and where was the first gig you went to?
Bodyjar put on a free show at JB HI-FI in Ferntree Gully in 2000 which blew me away! I didn’t know my guitarist Ryan at the time but I later found out he was also present.
‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Dire Straits Brother’s in Arms and Harry Belafonte’s Calypso record. Outstanding
Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?
Between the awkwardly tedious bump-ins and the numerous nervous pisses, there is unfortunately little time for the cliché RedHotChiliPeppers-style prayer circle.
When you’re Rolling Stones Big, what are you going to request on your rider: don’t be shy. We want specifics!
A room full of beautiful women of all ethnicities, arranged in height and skin-tone order…….and a 4 pack of Maxibons.
Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?
Peter Combe. He’s Australia’s answer to Bruce Springsteen.
Can we expect a new album after the strength of the Antihero EP?
We would love to smash out another full length release, but is the era of the album on it’s way out? People’s attention spans seem to be getting smaller and we don’t want to try and cram 11 songs down our audience’s throats at this point.
What’s coming up for Holliava in 2013?
Another record, a support spot on a national tour, I’m growing a beard and our new drummer will be officially announced soon. We plan to make a ton of fans and a ton of friends!
Catch Holliava at Rock The Bay on Saturday 16th February.
