Three years since the release of their last studio album Work, the indie-pop group from Stockholm have returned with their self-produced fourth record, Optica.

The theme of light and time is persistant throughout and the overall sound is reminiscent of their earlier records, a return to the orchestral feel that fans both know and love.

The LP kicks off with “Sugar”, a grea track with its bouncy, bubbly rhythm and sweet, love-lost inspired lyrics that are sure to get a foot or two tapping along to it.

“Illusions” follows, sounding as though it came straight out of the late 80s in the best possible way.

“Blue Ice” makes excellent use of keyboards and drums to drive the song and it works fantastically. It has a relaxing, melodic sound throughout and Adam Olenius’ voice is at its most raw and heartfelt here.

Tracks like “14th of July”, “Burn”, and “Chasing The Sinking Sun” fill the album out with a combination of both smooth and distorted riffs that take their sound to a new level.

“Walking In Your Footsteps” uses a quirky flute to great effect and with the upbeat rhythm of the song, it feels as though it would be right at home somewhere in the middle of a rom-com at the movies.

“Glasgow” is probably the most soothing track on the record with its videogame-esque synth style rhythm that gets stuck in your head, threatening to never leave.

The indie-pop group from Sweden have really defined their sound with this album;. repeat plays are essential for this easy listening record.
