There have been plenty of interesting reasons to cancel a tour, maybe it’s anxiety (*ahem*, George Michael), doctors orders (as seen by Tool), or even a band citing ‘time constraints’, but staying at home to look after your pregnant wife? Now that’s just cute.
Aussie music troubadour Josh Pyke has had to postpone an upcoming show in Brisbane for just such personal reasons, citing he would like to remain in Sydney to be with his expecting wife.
The Sydney-based singer-songwriter was set to play a spot at Brisbane’s Southside Tea Room on May 10 in a series of intimate shows that saw him travelling along the east coast.
The ‘Fans First’ shows which hit Adelaide and Melbourne last week, were an opportunity for fans to get the first taste from Pyke’s forthcoming fourth album The Beginning And The End Of Everything.
Funnily, Pyke’s actually putting ‘family first’ in this instance, writing on his Facebook page: “I have some really joyful news, which unfortunately also leads to postponing the Brisvegas Fans First show.”
Pyke apologised for the inconvenience, stating, “In a nutshell, whilst all this album making business has been going on, what I hadn’t mentioned, was that my amazing wife has also been creating a beautiful baby behind the scenes! Long story short, as always, I tried to cram too many things in, and thought it’d be fine to make it to all these shows before the baby arrived,” he added, “Best laid plans, hey!”
Pyke is set to stay in Sydney to be with his wife, and has since rescheduled his sold-out Brisbane show to Friday June 7th at the same venue. Stating of the date change:

The Brissie venue is coincidentally owned by Pyke’s past touring buddies Patience Hodgson and John Patterson of The Grates, who opened the late-night bar extension to their Southside Tea Room in May last year. The Brisbane-based duo also made public their “Secret Rituals” by announcing their wedding would take place at their venue late last year.
Meanwhile, Pyke’s Sydney show at the Camelot Lounge on the 11th will still go ahead as planned, “as it doesn’t take me too far from home,” says the singer.
The Sydney-sider recently released his first single off upcoming album The Beginning And The End Of Everything which is due out July 5th. Bug Eyed Beauty’ was the first taste of new music since his Gold status and ARIA award winning album Memories & Dust in 2007.
