Following their addition tot the lineups for Splendour In The Grass and Spin-Off Festivals, Brisbane’s The Jungle Giants have more exciting goodness for fans, in the form of their newest single ‘I Am What You Want Me To Be’ and a series of tour dates this July.

The new song – available now from iTunes and all good digital sources – is a vibrant reminder that individual pursuits and desires are the key to happiness. “There’s more reward in chasing a dream than living life according to someone else’s shitty rules,” says the band’s frontman Sam Hales.

‘I Am What You Want Me To Be’ is one of a vivid and youthful collection of songs the band recorded earlier this year with renowned producer Magoo at Applewood Studios. “It’s definitely a big step up. Especially in regards to songwriting,” Sam Hales told Tone Deaf in a recent interview. “These songs have been in the works for a long time, so there has been a lot of time for me to focus on arrangement.”

The album and single follow on from last year’s She’s A Riot EP, and ealier fan favourites such as ‘Mr Polite’ and ‘No One Needs to Know’. Their latest,  ‘I Am What You Want Me To Be’ reflects The Jungle Giants’ own evolution. “I think the band is headed towards a pretty cool space now,” says Hales, who formed The Jungle Giants in 2011 with his friends Cesira Aitken (guitar) and Andrew Dooris (bass). Drummer Keelan Bijker later completed the group. “I feel like the concepts on the album are more mature… I guess it’s just growing up, or experiencing life as an independent person for the first time.”

It’s been an eventful start for The Jungle Giants. In 2011 Sam Hales was awarded Arts Queensland’s Billy Thorpe scholarship for emerging musicians. The band’s debut EP and its 2012 follow up both received generous praise and saw the band emerge with a solid and ever-growing fan base, further fueled by a series of plum supports, festival spots and sell-out club shows. This July will see The Jungle Giants continue to enthrall audiences with their unique spin on energetic indie rock.
