Fresh off the back of their recent stint in Australia, Walk The Moon have released the deluxe version of their 2012 self titled debut album, an upbeat and carefree playlist that smacks of summer.

Opening strong with “Quesadilla”, the frenetic and fun song  sets a solid stage for the rest of the album to come.

The following tracks build up to a great crescendo, but the album sits on the success of its hit single, “Anna Sun”, a must-listen track that is virtually guaranteed to get you bopping. A definite highlight, it’s arguably the band’s bragging point, and the biggest and best showcase of their individual, and collective talents.

After their hit however, the album starts to waver. They favour a more experimental sound in later tracks, taking a much slower approach to their sound.

Picture a beach you happen to know houses a goldmine. You can appreciate the whole place for what it is, but you can’t help but hurry to get to the real treasure. So too with Walk The Moon, it’s tempting to rush certain tracks to get to the gold.

The various remixes added to the lineup are clever and don’t detract from the core of the album, however, they don’t prove to be as strong as the original tunes.

Technically, the album’s all there: the boys have talent, their beats are hard and driving, and their melodies clever and cute. The album tends to falter however, and the strength of key tracks like “Iscariot” only serve to highlight what the weaker tracks are lacking.
