We all know that rock music is best enjoyed at maximum volume, but one Pink Floyd fan took his obsession to the extreme and has landed himself in jail for 28 days.
Paul Foster, 51, has been driving his neighbours crazy for years with his particular fondness for Pink Floyd classic Dark Side Of The Moon, often playing it on repeat for hours all day and into the night.
To make matters worse for his neighbours, Foster wasn’t content with just spinning the record on repeat. Foster knew the only real way to enjoy classics such as Dark Side of The Moon, The Wall and Wish You Were Here at full volume. The sign of a true fan.
According to SWNS.com, fed-up neighbours say Foster has been enjoying his Pink Floyd collection all day and night for years. “He has probably lived here for about 20 years,” said one neighbour.
One family even moved out of the area because they couldn’t put up with the loud music – which was said to also include late night love ballads sessions.
“Its been a nightmare,” added one neighbour, who did not wish to be named. “I like Pink Floyd as much as the next man but not when it’s being played ten times a day until 4am. He also seemed to like his late night love ballads – I’ve lost track of the times I’ve heard Barry White and Marvin Gaye coming from the house.”
“I like Pink Floyd as much as the next man but not when it’s being played ten times a day until 4am.”“But it was mainly Pink Floyd, and I think whenever I hear their songs again I’ll be climbing the walls.”
But earlier this week the music suddenly stopped. Why? Because Foster had been thrown in jail for 28 days for continuing to indulge his musical passion – the fifth breach of an injunction order designed to prevent him from playing loud music.
Speaking after the court hearing that ended in Foster’s jail time, Caroline Baggaley, from housing association where Foster lived, said: “We are pleased with the sentencing, as we do not tolerate antisocial behaviour – in particular noise nuisance.”
“The vast majority of our customers have a quiet enjoyment of their homes and neighbourhoods and Aspire wants to ensure that everyone maintains this standard of conduct.”
“We just hope this teaches him a lessons and we can get a good nights sleep from now on. The people who used to live next door to him moved out because they couldn’t stand the noise anymore. It can go on all night.”
Maybe Foster’s neighbours should take notes form an elderly couple in Stockholm, Sweden became tired of the loud “whistling sound” coming from their neighbour’s property. The elderly couple allegedly blasted Iron Maiden at full volume throughout the night until 4am in retaliation and could only be stopped with police intervention.
But neighbours hoping that a stint in jail might stop Foster and his sonic terrorism shouldn’t hold their breath for too long, because it isn’t the first time he’s been jailed for his late night sessions.
Foster was first hauled before the courts in September last year but then breached an agreement to stop playing the music on October 4 and December 1 last year. On January 17 this year he was sentenced to 21 days in jail, and served an injunction banning him from causing nuisance noise.
He breached the injunction on February 22 and was jailed again, this time for 63 days after he admitted further breaches. We’d suggest Foster’s neighbours invest in some heavy-duty ear plugs, because it appears nothing will stop this music fan until he finally joins the great gig in the sky.
Other fans have been utilising rock’n’roll in acts of deliberate noise terrorism. Last year, a 54-year-old woman in New Hamsphire was arrested four times in 26 hours after repeatedly blasting AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’ at an ear-popping volume from her home.
News that followed another Acca Dacca diehard, who created a computer virus that infected nuclear facilities in Iran which would blast ‘Thunderstruck’ at maximum volume between shutting down their operating systems.
