Last Friday, Crowbar, in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley was alive and pumping with a crowd ready to party with Deez Nuts on their Bout It album tour.

Joined by Daybreakers, The Lane Cove and Driven Fear, Deez Nuts certainly gave the masses exactly what they were looking for.

Daybreakers hit the stage in the dark and enclosed Crowbar with an exceptionally loud and fast paced set, which set the precedence for the rest of the night. With plenty of double kicks, outrageous vocals, and excellent guitar riffs, Daybreakers ensured the crowd was effectively pumped for what was to come.

Some motivated members of the crowd participated in a circle pit, and a little bit of fight dancing, which obviously spurred the band on. Daybreakers were an energetic beginning to a night of ear-splitting, dynamic music.

Next up were Gold Coast five-piece, The Lane Cove. A clean-cut, impressive sound, mixing quality vocals with an impressive rhythm section, fivesome managed to get the audience revved up with plenty of crowd participation from obvious long-term fans.

Front-man Christopher Mackertich was engaging, exciting, and knew how to get the crowd energized. After a remarkable and fun set, The Lane Cove made way for the second last act of the night.

To set the tone for the main act, Driven Fear hit the stage in a whirlwind of rhythm and impressive vocals. Before launching into the most impressive set of the night, the boys asked the crowd to come closer, and keep their energy up, and the punters certainly complied. A much cleaner, crisper and altogether more enjoyable sound than the prior bands of the night, Driven Fear were an exciting and fun opening to the hardcore powerhouse that is Deez Nuts.

The headliners barrelled on stage in a flurry of quality beats and an interesting take on hardcore. Their unique style of mixing hardcore double kicks and extreme bass with what is essentially rapping had the punters excited.

It was clear to see what sets them apart of from the rest of the bands on the bill. JJ was ever the engaging frontman, ensuring the crowd were singing along and getting involved every step of the way.

Thumping out hit after hit, the boys from Deez Nuts managed to perform a great mix of new songs from their latest album, Bout It, as well as old favourites. The Melbourne-based band had the entire, packed out crowd at Crowbar up and moving, more so than any other band of night, and rightly so.

Definite favourites were “Stay True”, “DTD” and “Sex Sells”, with the crowd screaming the lyrics along with Peters, clearly enjoying every minute. A few times throughout their set, the frontman allowed a fan to scream lyrics into his microphone, lending the show a level of camaraderie and intimacy rarely seen at live music shows in this day and age.

Deez Nuts hit the spectators with song after song, their energy never wavering, giving a fantastic and lively end to an interesting night of incredibly loud, intense music.
