The CherryFest 2013 Lineup has expanded, with the addition of The Powder Monkeys as the local headline act for this year’s esteemed AC/DC Lane Festival’s coveted lineup, along with Blues Pills from Sweden, Melbourne rock monsters Money For Rope, The Sweethearts, Dead River and Sheriff.
“With Tim Hemensley tragically passing away a decade ago now, I never thought we’d ever see THE POWDER MONKEYS play again,” says Cherry Bar co-owner and Booker James Young, “but The Tote hosted the gig of the year, Hemensley anniversary, and we got to see John Nolan and Timmy Jack Ray joined by a collection of lead singers paying homage to the incredible legacy of this incredible tough-as-nails pub rock band.”
The Powder Monkeys have agreed to do it one more time “with just two or three amazing guest singers,” says Young. “This is the best news ever about any Festival I’ve ever hosted or even been to. The Powder Monkeys last hurrah at CherryFest in AC/DDC Lane! What a coup.”
Blues Pills, from Orebro, Sweden, will also be making their Australia debut as part of the CherryFest 2013 lineup. Recently signed to Nuclear Blast, their psych blues and hard rock sound are led by mysterious female lead, Elin Larsson, “and have attracted comparisons to Janis Joplin,” adds Young. “‘Nuff said.”
With a ream of live performances under their belt, the powerhouse rhythms of two drummers, and a frantic soul energy, Money For Rope are headed back to their old stomping ground for CherryFest 2013, along with fellow Melbourne rockers Sheriff, and sonic psychedelia from Bindi, Bonnie and Shaunagh from Dead River.
“And in a unique and truly wonderful feature of CherryFest 2013, there will be more female musicians performing on the stages than male with The BellRays, Crown of Thorns, The Mercy Kills, Blues Pills, Dead River and finally The Sweethearts, the 25-piece all-teenage all-girl soul act from Motor City, Geelong,” says Young. “This year at Cherry Fest there will be as much oestrogen as there is VB flowing down the cobblestones of AC/DC Lane.”
