If you were looking to head to Falls Festival 2013 at its long-running home at Lorne in coastal Victoria, you’ve now officially snoozed and lost.
Tickets to the annual New Year’s Music & Arts event went on sale to the general public this past Wednesday and fans rushing the box office led to tickets to the Lorne Falls leg “sold out in just half an hour,” confirms a statement from festival organisers.
Meanwhile, tickets to the remaining legs in Tasmania’s Marion Bay are still selling strongly, while tickets for Falls New South Wales debut at Byron Bay are “expected to sell out shortly.”
The news arrives following a new round of bands being added to the Falls Festival 2013 lineup. Famed former guitarist for The Smiths, Johnny Marr and Philly fuzz-rock favourites The War On Drugs were the latest acts to bolster Falls’ international list, which features headliners Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, The Roots, MGMT, The Wombats, Violent Femmes, !!!, White Denim, Solange, and more.
Locally, fans have scooped up tickets based on the strong appearance of bands closer to home, such as songwriting legend Neil Finn, The Cat Empire, Pond, Chet Faker, Big Scary, Hermitude, The Preatures, and the newly added likes of decorated Brisbanite Emma Louise, The Rubens, Violent Soho, Hungry Kids Of Hungary, Horroshow, Oliver Tank, and more.
While many punters are keen to expect the new Byron Bay leg of Falls, which will be hosted on a shared part of the Yelgun festival site used for this year’s Splendour In The Grass, festival organisers are pushing for the allure of Tasmania’s Marion Bay leg as the perfect holiday destination.
Organisers have just announced an increase in the quantity of the ‘Gimme Shelter’ tickets and ‘Tepee Life’ passes, allowing for camping options in an exclusive full day ticket price for the three-day event. “Just arrive onsite and step straight into a fully pitched tent without the hassle of lugging it all the way from home,” Falls organisers proffer.
The camping offers are designed to capitalise on the Marion bay leg as a holiday destination, noting that the sold out 2012 edition saw more than 55% of attendees travelling from interstate to make the most of their New Year’s celebrations; Festival Director Paul Pitticco (who bought into Falls Festival alongside Splendour co-founder Jessica Ducrou last year) also explains that “the ticket price is deliberately kept lower than that of its mainland counterparts in Lorne and Byron Bay to allow for patrons additional travel costs.”
Whatever punters choose as their Falls destination they’ll be able to catch the full compliment of acts on the Falls Festival 2013 lineup, who will play all three legs of the festival, with even more bands to be announced in the coming months.
