The Falls Music & Arts Festival is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary at its Lorne site and a decade-long run in Tasmania’s Marion Bay, with the former selling out in record time and Marion Bay expected to sell out shortly thanks to the impressive lineup that’ll be bringing in the New Year’s festivities.
The latest news from festival organisers is an exciting new partnership with figures from one of Australia’s other celebrated music events.
A press statement from organisers this morning announced that two thirds of Falls Festival’s top management are departing. General Manager Naomi Daly and Event Manager Carmella Morgan will be “leaving the event to spend more time with their young families, both with babies shortly on the way” reads the press release.
The pair’s departure from their roles has created an opportunity for Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco, top brass from Splendour In The Grass, to step in and partner with Falls Festival’s Simon Daly.
A representative of the Falls Festival told Tone Deaf that the two, who are business partners in Splendour In The Grass, are buying into the partnership as individuals.
“We love The Falls Music & Arts Festival; it’s a remarkable event that we’re thrilled to be a part of,” said Ducrou and Piticco of the announcment. “We look forward to working with Simon and his team nurturing and continuing the great Falls tradition.”
Falls Festival Founder Simon Daly was also enthusiastic about the introduction of his new cohorts, “the Falls Music & Arts Festival goes from strength to strength every year and the contributions from Naomi and Carmella have been immeasurable. I couldn’t think of a better team to join us in Jess and Paul as we continue this tradition for many years to come”.
The collaboration represents two of Australia’s most renowned music festivals coming together in union and organisers have confirmed there are no drastic changes planned for either Falls or Splendour – in terms of personnel or tradition.
The lineup for Falls Festival 2013, including the recently announced Boogie Nights program, includes the likes of Fearless Freaks The Flaming Lips, President Obama’s favourite Irish indie rock trio Two Door Cinema Club, dream pop heroes Beach House and many, many more. Full dates and details here.
