The first acts of the Port Fairy Folk Festival 2014 lineup have been announced, with the list of bands are artists playing the festival’s 38th edition next March now being revealed.

Featuring four days of surf, sun, and sumptuous soundtracking, the Port Fairy Folk Festival takes place from 7th to 10th of March on the gorgeous coastal resort, and sees 32 acts headed out for the annual event.

The first round of the Port Fairy Folk Festival 2014 lineup includes a roster of new names, emerging young talent, and a selection of classic favourites of the festival.

On the international front, American jazz-touched singer-songwriter Madeleine Peyroux leads a list of names that includes Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentleme, UK award winner Blair Dunlop, rustic rebel Pokey la Farge, Ireland’s Lunasa, West African troupe Jaaleekay, Canadian songstress Rose Cousins, humorous NZ duo the Topp Twins, The Alaska String Band, and more.

Drawing from an enviable pool of Australia artists, the Port Fairy Folk Festival 2014 lineup also includes celebrated Indigenous singer-songwriter Archie Roach, performing his new project Creation, roots rocker Ash Grunwale, the veteran David Bridie and his band, The Pills, Dog Trumpet – the new outfit from former Mental As Anything members, old faves Things of Stone & Wood, incomparable songsmith Ben Slater, as well as the rollicking sounds of The Band Who Knew Too Much and Melbourne’s The Tiger & Me.

Also on the Port Fairy Folk Festival 2014 lineup is Mic Conway’s National Junk Band plus new shows from Chris Wilson’s Crown Of Thorns and the legendary folk and blues artist Margret RoadKnight celebrating 50 years of roots music. All up, this announcement presents a fascinating troupe of diverse roots artists eager to carve up the 8 main arena stages and the 12 small ones around Port Fairy.

The first two advance ticket releases for the festival have sold out but discount tickets are there to be snapped up. With at least 40 more acts to be announced, Port Fairy 2014 is heading for another full house, with an average 60,000 attendees each year telling the true story of the festival’s success.
