Remixer extraordinare Cyril Hahn will be playing both The Falls Festival as well as making an appearance and ringing in the new year at Let Them Eat Cake 2014.
The Switzerland native experimented early on with music production during high school and abandoned it after leaving his hometown to pursue post-secondary in Vancouver, Canada. After a three year hiatus from music, feeling a need to return to his former love, he sat down and did what is considered by some to be taboo: stripped down two iconic RnB songs and gave them his unique atmospheric twist: Mariah Carey’s ‘Touch My Body’ and Destiny’s Child ‘Say My Name’.
With now countless other remixes under his belt, we thought we’d ask the guy who everyone is loving, what it is he’s digging musically, and this is what it is!
Julio Bashmore – ‘Peppermint’
This is what happens when two of my favourites team up aka Jessie Ware and Julio Bashmore. They’ve already collaborated a couple of times and this is the latest effort. Love the disco vibes.
Bicep – Album Trailer
Instead of picking just one song I decided to pick the trailer for their new release instead. It’s both amazing and hilarious. I love the B-movie footage.
Dusky – ‘Careless’
This has been one of my favourite tracks to play out this year. The crowd usually loves it as well.
Grizzly Bear – ‘The Knife’
Grizzly Bear is one of those bands where it’s hard to just pick one favourite song. They’ve been so consistent with all their releases. I remember seeing them live a couple of years ago and it was simply amazing.
The War On Drugs – ‘Baby Missiles’
If I had a driver’s licence (which I don’t) and had a cool vintage car (which I don’t) I’d go on a road trip with this song on loop.
James Holden – ‘10101’
James Holden is one of those producers that I consider artists than anything else. His approach seems more conceptual than I lot of music we’re hearing these days. I also love his attention to detail.
