We’re taking this one with a grain of salt, but if it’s reported in The Guardian and April Fool’s Day is still two months away we’ll run with it. Apparently Shane MacGowan of The Pogues  – and a walking miracle that he hasn’t succumbed to cirrhosis of the liver – has teamed up with Caulfield Grammar graduate Nick Cave, Primal Scream’s resident drug hoover Bobby Gillespie and music legend , errr, Johnny Depp, to record a charity single for Haiti. This one raises a little more interest for us at Tone Deaf, as unlike the self-serving American all star charity singles, they’re apparently doing a cover of Screamin’ Jay Hawkin’s 1956 song I Put A Spell On You. We’re not sure on this one – y’see Haiti is a country where voodoo is still very popular as a religion and the casting of spells is a common occurrence  – and many Haitians have blamed voodoo spells for the massive earthquake that caused the human catastrophe on the island … Hmmmmmm.
