The Tone Deaf team have been pulling hair for what will be a massive year of new releases for 2010 from some of our favourite acts…… so here it is, Tone Deaf’s Top 10 most anticipated releases:
THE DEAD WEATHER
Dead Weather collaborator and drummer Jack White has announced that they will be releasing a new album in April. The record that will be the follow up to their 2009 album ‘Horehound’ has been in progress since December and is due to be released in early April this year. White confirmed yesterday that the first single of the new album “Blue Blood Blues” would see Alison Mosshart taking a step back from the mic, as lead vocals will be sung by the man himself; Jack White.
RADIOHEAD
Nigel Godrich – Radiohead Producer announced last week that the band has spent the whole of January in a studio transformed house in the Hollywood Hills recording their latest and 8th studio album. Bryan Cook – Mixer/ Sound Engineer worked with the band for the first three weeks in January recording the follow up to Radiohead’s 2007 hit release “In Rainbows”. The suspected drop date for the upcoming record is unknown as yet, but the whole rock world is high with anticipation.
AMY WINEHOUSE
The recording of Amy Winehouse’s upcoming third studio album is reportedly coming to its final days. Winehouse will supposedly be travelling from the UK to Jamaica next week to do the final tweaking of the upcoming release which we will hopefully get our hands on in the first half of 2010.
THEM CROOKED VULTURES
It has been reported that John Paul Jones – bassist of Los Angeles formed supergroup “Them Crooked Vultures”, has announced that the band will be recording a follow up to their self titled 2009 debut album late this year. The rumours had already spread but the Led Zeppelin legend himself has time lined the second album process with a hopeful release date of 2010.
THE STROKES
The Strokes are reported to have started recording early this week on their fourth album, a follow up to their 2006 record “First Impressions of Earth”. They have announced that they are tracking in New York’s Avatar Studio with Grammy Award winning producer – Joe Chiccarelli. Chiccarelli has worked with the likes of The White Stripes, The shines, U2, Frank Zapper and more recently My Morning Jacket. Gus Oberg will be engineering the upcoming record which we hope to expect in stores in the second half of 2010.
KILLING JOKE
Killing Joke have announced the release of their 14th studio album “Feast of Fools”. The record which is a follow up to their 2006 hit “Hosannas from the Basements of Hell” will feature the original line up of Jaz Coleman, Youth Glover, Geordie Walker and Paul Ferguson. We anticipate the drop of this epic record in April of this year.
MASSIVE ATTACK
Massive Attack’s long awaited 4th studio album “Heligoland” will finally be released on February 8th. Heligoland is a follow up to their 2003 success 100th Window and will feature 10 much anticipated tracks. 3D also announced that the tracks that were left on the chopping board from the upcoming album will be able to be heard by fans on an EP as well as some newies in May of this year.
THE NATIONAL
The National have announced that they will be releasing a follow up to their 2007 studio album “Boxer” in May of this year. The record that will be their 5th studio album has reportedly been in progress since December 2008 and it is rumoured that it will feature such live tracks as; “Wake up your Saints”, “England”, “Blood Buzz, Ohio”, “Vanderlylle Cry Baby”, “Believe Me” and “Karamazor (also known as Runaway”.
BATTLES
New York band Battles revealed that they will be releasing a second album, a follow up to their 2007 debut sensation “Mirrored” this year. The band’s new album is in the works in New York at present but will finish recording the record at the Machines with Magnets studio in Pawtucket. A release date has not yet been set, but it is anticipated for late 2010.
SUPERGRASS
The boys from Supergrass have confirmed the release of their 7th studio album, the 1st on their new label – Cooking Vinyl and a follow up to 2008’s “Diamond Hoo Ha”. The record that has been tentatively titled “Release the Drones” will be available on CD, Download and 12” in May of this year. Lead Vocalist Gaz Coombes revealed that 2 or 3 of the new tracks see the members participating in a bit of instrument swapping. Bassist Mick Quinn and Drummer Danny Goffey reportedly try out some role play on the title track “Release the Drones”.
