Louis London return with their sophomore release The Big Deep, an EP that displays great promise despite their short time together. The four-track release is a melange of catchy, atmospheric indie rock with enough sonic diversity strewn about to keep it interesting. Written during the group’s time away at Lake Eucumbene, the release is a cleverly forged collection no doubt inspired by the fresh Snowy Mountain air.

Ed Saloman’s vibrant, warbling vocals inject emotion into each track, especially during the lilting tempo of opener ‘Grand’, a sweeping love song built on catchy melodic riffs.

‘This Night Time’ revolves around a memorable hook and tests the breadth of Saloman’s vocal range. The song also combines a reggae offbeat and echoing backing – an apt fit for the serene undercurrent that accompanies the track’s scenic clip.

‘Raise The Crown’ showcases a distinct languid groove with lyrics that resonate a deep sombre quality. A much needed lift comes from a soulful interlude where the frontman laments, “She said I don’t know what you’re talking about”.

As much as each tune thrives in its own right, ‘We’re Not Alone’ is the stand out. The song is a great example of the atmospheric mood that the band generates through vivid melodies and cleverly layered harmonisation.

Although they are still developing their sound, Louis London’s ability to pull various influences together and make them work has resulted in an engaging release laced with feeling. One to keep an eye on.
