Melbourne psych rockers Greenthief will release their highly anticipated debut album Voyage on Monday the 10th February 2014. Aptly named, Voyage is the culmination of a four year journey with Greenthief continuously evolving their sound, honing their songwriting, and road testing their material with a relentless touring schedule.
In addition to captivating audiences across Australia with their unique take on psych rock, 2013 also saw Greenthief undertake their debut international tour, performing 20 dates across Eastern Europe as well as shows in the UK and Germany.
Produced by Greenthief and legendary Steve James (Sex Pistols, The Jam), Voyage embraces the concept of what an album should be- a work to be listened to as a whole, and an experience greater than the sum of its parts. The 12 tracks guide listeners through ecstatic energetic highs and brooding atmospheric lows, paying homage to 70s inspired drum sounds and heavy bass tones, and woven together with the distinct melodic vocals of guitarist and songwriter Julian Schweitzer.
Intentionally timed to capture the raw live energy of the band, Greenthief recorded the album immediately following the completion of a 25 date national tour supporting The Butterfly Effect in 2013. The lush surroundings of northern New South Wales provided the perfect location for work on the album, with the band laying down the beds live within a weekend. A DIY approach was used to record the vocal overdubs of Voyage, with tracking taking place in sheds, wardrobes and toilets before being mixed and mastered by Lindsay Gravina (Violent Soho, Kingswood, The Living End) at Birdland Studios, Melbourne.
Greenthief will embark on a 21 date national tour in support of the release in March/April 2014. Voyage will be released via MGM Distribution 10/02/2014.
