The BBC has confirmed rumours that have been floating around for months now – it plans to axe the specialist digital music channel as part of a cost saving drive.
Established in 2002, the station is aimed at 25 – 49 year old music snobs and features knowledgeable presenters, archived live and studio performances for the BBC by thousands of artists, and a far more cutting edge playlist than the populist Radio 1.
Director General Mark confirmed the proposal when submitting his strategic review of the organisation. As expected, the music industry is up in arms, with even Lily Allen taking a break from scratching Courtney Love’s eyes out on Twitter to write a coherent opinion piece in defence of it for The Guardian.
