Expect to see lots more of these stories as the 30th anniversary of his suicide approaches next month. There’s a campaign to have a bridge in Manchester named after Ian Curtis, the late Joy Division singer. His former band mates Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris have backed a campaign which aims to create a lasting memorial to the iconic front man who hanged himself on the 18th May 1980.
The Epping Walk Bridge, which crosses over Princess Parkway in Hulme, was the location for a series of iconic photographs of Joy Division – one of which was used on the front of their ‘best of’ album.
The campaign reckons renaming the bridge would be an appropriate way of commemorating the 30th anniversary of his death. You can join the Facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=348133187938&ref=mf
