Legendary ‘80s new wave star Adam Ant has offered Oasis’ Liam Gallagher out for a fight in a bizarre but highly amusing outburst during an interview with The Quietus magazine. The 55 year old Ant, better known to his Mum as Stuart Goddard, has been plagued by problems related to his bipolar condition in recent years and told the interviewer of Gallagher: “I’d like to have a fight with him whichever way he wants … physically, mentally, I’d beat him in anyway shape or form, I know that.”
He also takes a pot shot at journalist and author Paul Morley over a review the latter did of the former’s album some 30 odd years ago, calling him a c**t, as well as having a go at Joy Division. He said of the band: “I actually had a song that we used to play live, but we were told we couldn’t put it on the album because it was based on The Night Porter, a Dirk Bogarde film about a sado-masochistic relationship between a concentration camp prisoner and a Nazi guard. What about Joy Division calling themselves that, and then New Order? They only got away with it ‘cos they’re fucking ugly and they look like brewers.”
Ant also discusses his mental health issues at length and finally reveals that his penchant for causing controversy hasn’t deserted him because he has his first new album in 15 years coming out; Adam Ant Is the Blueblack Hussar In Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter and will be released on his own label, Blueback Hussar.
