The music world is still dealing with YouTube’s threat of blocking videos by indie bands and theisclr labels, but another Aussie band is up-in-arms after their clip was taken down from the hugely popular website.
Scalphunter, Perth’s self-described “Loudest Hardcore Punk n’ Roll Band”, were pretty pleased after their music video for raucous track ‘There Will Be Change’ reached over 4,000 views on YouTube.
But the clip – depicting a hooded madman embarking on a bloody human hunt through the woods – proved to be a little too hardcore for some people’s tastes, and the NSFW video was removed from the site after being reported by an anonymous viewer, as TheMusic reports.
“So you know that bloody clip we released a few weeks back? Well some smart ass decided they didn’t like it and reported it to YouTube, who removed it,” wrote the four-piece in a Facebook post. “So fuck it, we re-uploaded it again… Let’s stick it up the ass of whoever couldn’t handle a little bit of Scalphunting!”
Frontman Stevie Goodlooks took his venting one step further in an additional post, written in ALL CAPS – the international language of anger; “WE WERE FORCED TO COHERE WITH CENSORSHIP WARNINGS AND WE ARE FUCKING PISSED OFF!!” he begins, continuing to note:
“To the coward who anonymously complained and got our video and got it taken down we challenge you to come forward. To explain to a creative, open-minded music loving community why you are so offended by another persons expression.
We can take your criticism, but what we cant take is hiding behind your computer and not giving us a chance to defend the reasons for creating it. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE CLIP IS ABOUT! Conservative, ignorant, PC individuals muting the voices of new generation of minds screaming for change!”
The singer further encourages fans to “help us get it back to 4,000 views” in order to “SEND A BIG FUCK YOU TO THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING IT DOWN.”
Following launching their new clip in June, Scalphunter are set to support High On Fire on their Australian Tour, when the sludge rockers hit the band’s hometown of Perth to play the Rosemount Hotel on Friday 18th July.
It’s the second time in recent months that an Aussie group has had their work unceremoniously pulled from YouTube. NSW duo Little Hurricane saw their clip for new single ‘Brightside’ pulled for its content: the clearly humorous depiction of a fish murder.
