The company that bought the rights to the name CBGB when the legendary New York City music venue closed down in 2006 has filed for bankruptcy with debts of between $1 million to $10 million. CBGB Holdings LLC bought the rights to reproduce the club’s logo on t-shirts, mugs, lighters, caps and every other form of memorabilia; intending to cash in on nostalgia for the club which hosted seminal groups ranging from The Ramones to Patti Smith, Television, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers and Blondie.
