The Australian music scene was shocked earlier this year when acclaimed Melbourne five-piece Snakadaktal announced that they were disbanding, only shortly after unveiling their widely acclaimed debut album, Sleep In The Water, in 2013.
Since the surprise split, some members of the group have been making appearances in other musical projects, including a well-received appearance from vocalist and keyboardist Phoebe Cockburn on Hopium’s ‘Dreamers’.
Now, co-vocalist and guitarist Sean Heathcliff has unveiled the first fully fleshed-out musical venture to come from an ex-Snakadaktal in the form of Kagu and the new single ‘Shadow Of The Wind’, which serves as a counterpoint to the dreamy, upbeat sounds of Snakadaktal.
Amid a minimalist soundbed of mellow acoustic guitar picking and downtempo beats that recall Radiohead circa In Rainbows, Heathcliff’s forlorn vocals provide the perfect accompaniment to an overcast Sunday morning or a chilled-out Friday evening.
