Every week a plethora of big name acts, Australian musicians and little-known musos drop brand spankin’ new tracks on the internet. We’ve trawled through the internet to find some of our favourites and plucked them from the masses. Grab your headphones and enjoy.
Future Brown – Room 302 (Feat. Tink)
The supergroup that is Future Brown obviously knew they were onto a good thing when they teamed up with Tink for the previously released ‘Wanna Party’. They’ve dropped their second track with the hip-hop artist, which comes from Future Brown’s forthcoming self-titled debut. Much like its predecessor ‘Room 302’ proves that this record is one highly anticipated beast. It’s due February 24. (
Nite Fields – ‘Prescription’
This four-piece from Brisbane might still be in their nascency, but you can place a sure-fire bet that they’ll garner plenty of comparisons with Nick Cave in the postpunk arena. For contextualisation’s sake that might help in introducing the band to your friends, but all that matters is their output so far has been particularly on point. File ‘Prescription’ as an earworm and ready yourself for their debut, Depersonalisation, out February 3rd. (CT)
Vallis Alps – ‘Young’
This duo, which has ties to both Canberra and Seattle, weave pleasing atmospheric beats with a London Grammar-esque bass line. The female vocals won’t help the comparisons with the former outfit, however Vallis Alps are a slightly more electronic leaning pop act. You can stream their EP via their Soundcloud.
Of Montreal – ‘Empyrean Abattoir’
Aureate Gloom is the title of their forthcoming record and we have a new track to wet your appetite ahead of its release. After teasing the opener ‘Baseem Sabry’ ‘Empyrean Abattoir’ is psychedelic sonic odyssey which you can stream below. (CT)
Swervedriver – ‘Setting Sun’
This dreamgaze outfit dropped one standalone track ‘Deep Wound’ last year, and have at long last released the first track ‘Setting Sun’ from their forthcoming record I Wasn’t Born To Lose You, which is set for release 3rd March this year.
‘Setting Sun’ is an interesting first track to release, the tune only clocking-in at just under the 3-minute mark, but after one full rotation, listeners will be instantly hooked.
The carefree tune sees the four-piece step away from their hardcore shoegaze aesthetic, producing a psych-pop track that is both encompassing and warming. (JH)
Action Bronson – ‘Actin Crazy’
‘Actin Crazy’ is the latest single to be taken from Bronson’s highly anticipated major label debut, Mr. Wonderful. First to be unveiled was an untitled anthem celebrating Bronson’s globe-trotting ways, which was followed by ‘Easy Rider’, which came complete with an appropriately psychedelic music video.
The new track, which readers can check out below, sees the Queens powerhouse joining forced with Drake producer Noah “40” Shebib. The result is bar after bar of characteristically tongue-in-cheek boastfulness peppered with goofy pop culture references and sharp punchlines. (GM)
Shadow Makers – ‘Riding The Way’
After a number of years experimenting with several different line ups, sonic direction and perfecting their sound, Melbourne five piece Shadow Makers are now ready to release their brand new single.
Titled ‘Riding The Wave’ the band’s debut is a hypnotic psych gem filled with groove, hooks, parallel male / female harmonies and a three part guitar wall of sound.
SpaceManAntics – ‘Katzenjammer
It’s official, our west-side brothers and sisters over in Perth produce the best Psych rock Australia has to offer.
From everyone’s favourites POND and Tame Impala, to promising upcoming talents Methyl Ethel and now with the release of the single ‘Katzenjammer’ you can add five piece SpaceManAntics to the list, it’s now been cemented – if you’re chasing Aussie psych, west is best.
Hellions – ‘Lie’
This Sydney three-piece are gearing up for the release of their debut full-length, Indian Summer, which is set to drop on February 3rd. The latest single, ‘Lie’, perfectly reflects just why this heavy metal act are worth watching in 2014. Take in the high octane sounds by streaming the song below.
