The year 2015 has gotten off to a little bit of a rough start for live music venues, with both Sydney and Perth losing some staple performance spaces, however today we can report some positive news, Melbourne is getting a brand-spanking new live music venue.
The freshest arrival to the scene is VICE Bar’s bandroom, a place dedicated to two things: live music and delicious dumplings – perfect, right?
Situated in Melbourne’s inner-north at 42 Johnston Street Fitzroy, the bar is currently open from 6:00pm until late Wednesday – Sunday, boasting of rotating tap of pale ale’s and cocktails, not to mention insane dumpling specials including 2-for-1 and 3-for-1. More importantly, the bandroom will host live music up to four nights a week.
Speaking of the up-and-coming gig spot, Callum Linsell (Bonny and Clyde bookings manager) commented on VICE Bar’s live music venture, “the band room is small but super cool. It means we can really focus on up and coming stuff and side projects of bigger acts. We are also setting up a system so gigs hosted will be projected into the downstairs cocktail room.”
VICE Bar’s Bandroom will be launching Saturday 24th January, as such the guys are throwing a free gig that will see the likes of Brodie J Brummer (Flyying Colours Frontman), James Seedy, Jules Sheldon (The Primary Frontman) and Dj sets from Tom De Vries (The Citradels Frontman) and the The Dandelion giving it their all, check the Facebook event for details.
This is great news for live music lovers of Melbourne, let’s not forget the massive year of venues that opened in 2014 including Melbourne’s Little & Olver, Shadow Electric band room that powered into full-time, a Cuban themed pop-up bar named El Coco as well as the reopening of Brunswick’s Railway Hotel, in Sydney The Basement has been revamped as well as the opening of Bandroom(which replaced the FBi Social), while Brisbane has witnessed an explosion of great venues with The Brooklyn Standard, The Brightside, Woolly Mammoth and ex-Powderfinger member’s stunning refurbished WW2 hanger, The Triffid, not to mention the beautiful venue in the Blue Mountains.
