Moorabbin Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives are pursuing an investigation after a woman was indecently assaulted during last week’s St Kilda Festival. According to a Victoria Police media release, the 20-year-old woman was watching a band when the man ejaculated onto her back.
The woman, whom The Age identified as “Emma”, was reportedly watching a performance by Thundamentals near the event main stage at about 8pm on Saturday, 7th February when the man masturbated onto her back and then disappeared into the crowd.
“She was watching the band, felt a warm sensation on her back, and turned around to see him doing up his fly,” said Detective Senior Constable Carin Wood, from the Moorabbin sexual offences and child abuse investigation team, adding that the woman was “mortified” by the attack.
Det Sen Cst Wood said the woman was in a mosh pit near the front of the stage when she felt a “warm sensation on her back”. “It was a mosh pit, and there were thousands of people around. It’s obviously concerning behaviour for police. It’s very disturbing in such a public place, to have the courage to do that and want to do that.
The woman was said to be in such a state of shock that she did not say anything to the man before he disappeared into the crowd. Investigators have released a computer-generated image of the suspect and the woman’s clothes will be forensically analysed.
The man is described as being Indian in appearance, aged between 18 and 30, with a dark-brown complexion, an average build and short, black hair. He has brown eyes and acne scars on his cheeks. Detectives are also looking to speak to a woman who held the victim’s wallet while she changed her clothes.
