Have you ever wondered what a piano, guitar and drum-kit combined together would look like? Don’t worry, we hadn’t dreamt that big either, however such a creation is upon us, and could be a massive game-changer.

Introducing Artiphon’s “INSTRUMENT 1”, a fairly small handheld musical instrument that appeared on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter Tuesday 10 March that has unbelievably received over $600,000 worth of pledges, as Music.Mic points out.

The highly sought after invention makes claim that it will allow users to play any instrument, style, and sound with a single device that connects directly to your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Instrumentally, this includes anything from a guitar, violin, bass, piano, drum machine, the list goes on, Artiphon stating “it’s any instrument you want it to be” all without any actual strings, the device functions by the use buttons and sensors.

INSTRUMENT 1 comes with an in-built speaker, so one can simply pick up the device and start messing around with a myriad of sounds and on top of this it can connect directly to iPhones, iPads, Macs, and PCs via Lightning or USB.

It is also compatible with hundreds of apps on mobile devices and computers which means the likes of Apple’s Garageband as well as synth app like Moog’s Animoog as well as being fully MIDI-compatible, it works with 100’s of MIDI apps and software like Ableton Live, ProTools, Logic, and many more on your computer, meaning you can explore with ease a whole world of sounds.

Of course, it comes with an application so you can customise your own INSTRUMENT 1 with multiple instrument presets, making it easy to loop one sound and play over the top, virtually creating a one-man-band with one handheld device.

Since it surfaced online three days ago, INSTRUMENT 1 has already smashed it’s fan-funding target of $75,000 currently sitting at $609,390 with 32 days still to go. With such excitement from pledgers around the globe, we could be seeing INSTRUMENT 1 in the flesh very soon.
