As the world continues to live under the looming spectre of terror, it’s important for the public to remain vigilant. Inform the authorities if you see anything suspicious, be wary of your surroundings, and protect yourself and your family.
That’s precisely what one Canada resident did on Tuesday evening after boarding the MV Burrard Beaver ferry. The SeaBus terminal in North Vancouver was evacuated for several hours after a suspicious package was found on the vessel.
As CBC News reports, the local bomb squad unit sent in a robot and a sniffer dog to investigate the suspicious package, which was subsequently determined to be an “old style Walkman music player”, according to Metro Vancouver Transit Police spokeswoman Anne Drennan. Yep.

“The device that we were looking at was an old style Walkman music player. It was very unusual looking. It wasn’t clear at all that that’s what it was until the robot was able to really examine it up close,” she said, saying the device was found under a seat and police were erring on the side of caution.
TransLink suspended SeaBus trips in both directions from Waterfront to Lonsdale Quay just after 5pm PT, with regular services resuming around 9pm. Thankfully, no one was harmed by the device and it’s not known to whom it belonged or what album was inside.
Frankly, we’re not too sure what the most surprising or bizarre part of this story is – the fact that the person who found the Walkman didn’t know what it was or the fact that there’s someone out there still using a Walkman. Where the hell do you even buy cassette tapes these days?
