Toro Y Moi, real name Chaz Bundick, is gearing up to unveil his latest full-length effort, What For? next Friday, 3rd April via Mistletone/Inertia, and has now shared the latest single to be taken from the eagerly anticipated release, ‘Run Baby Run’.
While the album’s first single, ‘Empty Nesters’, was an upbeat power pop anthem, while subsequent single ‘Buffalo’ was noted for its retrofitted funk sound, ‘Run Baby Run’ feels like a warm summer breeze of ’60s nostalgia, with shades of The Kinks, The Byrds, and even The Beatles woven throughout.
Judging by the three singles, it looks as though What For? will see Bundick stepping even further away from electronic sounds, while minting the mellow, groove-laden sounds and fuzzy atmospherics that we’ve all come to know him for.
