Just over a week ago there was an incredible breakthrough on travel costs for Australia musicians that’s set to serve as a major financial game-changer, and to make things even better for our musical artists, touring just got a whole lot better.
As Music Victoria points out, QANTAS airlines have made some massive alterations to their luggage limits for musicians in aims to make touring a hell of a lot more easy and cost effective.
The newly dedicated Musicians Additional Baggage Allowance includes a free baggage allowance of three pieces at a whopping 23 kilograms per piece per person – massive right?
So where and when can Aussie musicians begin to travel with QANTAS for a whole lot cheaper?

The offer starts April 13 and flights must be booked two or more business days before departure and is available on QANTAS and QANTASLink domestic services, which is any flight within Australia with the QF flight number. We must stress that this not available for flights operated by partner airlines.
Of course, there are some requirements that must be met, QANTAS list that the musician must be travelling with a musical instrument or touring equipment and be a current member of one of the following eligible musical associations:
• Association of Artist Managers
• Australian Independent Record Labels Association
• The Australasian Performing Right Association
• The Australian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society
• Live Performance Australia
• Musicians Union of Australia
• Country Music Association of Australia
• Folk Alliance
• Australian Chamber Orchestra
• Opera Australia
• AMIN’s member organisations: Queensland Music Network, Contemporary Music Services Tasmania, Music NSW, Music NT,
This, coupled with the amazing partnership between Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN) and Travel Beyond Group is huge win for Aussie musicians.
