The internet can be a wonderful place for fans and artists to communicate, but as we explored with Aussie hiphopper 360, it can also be a very dangerous and scaring place, and despite musicians speaking-out against this very problem, this latest case of sexually abusive commentary shows that some people still have no care for the words they use.
Following suit from the poignant op-ed that she penned in 2013 on this terrible issue, Lauren Mayberry of the Scottish synth group CHVRCHES has taken to social media to publicly takedown a supposed ‘fan’ who posted a horrific sexually violent message to the artist, as Billboard report.
Mayberry uploaded a screen shot of a comment the band had received on their official Instagram, which you can see below, blurring out the attackers name as to give them no face, and hitting back in the most kick-ass of ways.

The 27 year-old’s message makes an example out of the disgusting message stating that “on a daily basis, we still receive communications like this” before taking aim at the countless amounts of people who believe it’s still okay to pen these types of comments, writing “these people never learn that violence against women is unacceptable. But they also never learn that women will not be shamed and silenced and made to disappear” closing with an unforgettable statement, “I am not going anywhere. So bring it on, motherfuckers.”
Back in 2013, Mayberry penned an op-ed via The Guardian, fed-up with the consistent amount of misogynistic and rape themed e-mails she received disguised as fan mail through the band’s many channels of social media.

Explaining the daily occurrence of receiving such awful messages, she detailed “I have seen every message – good and bad – that has come into our inbox,” she writes. “But in order to get to the messages from people who genuinely wish to share something with the band, I must filter through every condescending and offensive message we receive. After a while, despite the positive messages in the majority, the aggressive, intrusive nature of the other kind becomes overwhelming.”
