As music fans, we’ve got a pretty open mind when it comes to different artists, sounds and genres, we’ll give anything a go and proudly defend what we dig even if others aren’t totally into it – but far out, after a ridiculous interview with one of the world’s leading DJs, it feels a little difficult to defend the dance floor titan.
EDM/house producer, David Guetta, has gone and said some hilarious (and somehow serious) stuff about his performances at Coachella in a conversation with Beatport (via Consequence of Sound), which is guaranteed to make you cringe.
The French DJ tore apart the Californian desert with his epic 9pm set on the Sahara Stage, and even though he looked cool, calm and collected as he dropped beats, it appears there were a couple of concerning issues that made his performance quite challenging.

“Something crazy happened to me on the [first weekend],” he explained “I’m using Rekordbox and Pioneer to play, and before I saved my playlist to my SD card, my computer crashed. So I just had to put all my music in a random order on USB sticks at the last minute, doing it really old school, scrolling to look for the records I wanted to play next.”
Yep. Poor old Guetts’ had to play his set “really old school” by selecting song after song…like a normal DJ…because his playlist was all out of order. Yikes, sounds pretty bloody tough, Davey! What about all of these DJs that play with vinyl? Imagine doing that!
But wait, there was even more trouble experienced by the 47 year-old.

The Black Eyed Peas *tumbleweed* apparently gave a surprise performance with Guetta, and because he didn’t have one of their tunes on hand before they took to the stage, he was shot into adrealine-overdrive. “When Fergie decided to come last minute, it was like, OK, but I don’t have ‘I Gotta Feeling,’ because I don’t play it any more” he said.
“I called my stage manager to go download ‘I Gotta Feeling’ on iTunes so I could play it. It was just completely crazy, but I loved it. And actually the set went amazing, and in a way the stress adds to the adrenaline.” Wowzers, lucky for stage managers and iTunes, who knows what could have happened if the track wasn’t downloaded ASAP.
We’ll be the very first to stand up for dance music and DJs as we’re a huge fans of electronic-based music, however Guetta’s precious recounts of Coachella make him sound like he’s a faker that simply presses play and has a bit of a dance onstage, which is extremely frustrating as this is a notion that countless talented DJs have continually had to fight against in supporting their brand of music.
