Despite the fact that her family have removed themselves from the project, condemning it for containing “basic untruths”, Asif Kapadia’s documentary on the life of Amy Winehouse will still hit the silver screen this July, with the first official clip for the film being released.
The almost minute-long snippet displays the Winehouse in her well-known, playful manner as she holds a cigarette laughing “I look like a floatin’ head”, as Nick Shymansky speaks of his conversations with the late jazz-pop singer.
The film entitled Amy: The Girl Behind The Name and has been created from A24 Chronicles by Asif Kapadia, best known for his critically acclaimed documentary, Senna, and is said to haunt UK theatres on July 3 of this year, with an international release date still to be revealed. Winehouse tragically passed away on July 23, 2011, her death due to alcohol poison. The troubled singer-songwriter had a long-standing war with drugs and alcohol, not to mention her highly publicised battle with tabloids that plagued her her short yet incredibly important career.
