The beginning of April saw the lineup of this year’s epic Poison City Weekender in Melbourne get announced, with adored Aussie punks The Smith Street Band taking the coveted headline position, and it looks like Sydney and Brisbane will now get a spin-off of the revered music festival.
Introducing The Smith Street Band curated I Love Life mini-festival that’s set to hit Sydney and Brisbane Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of September, respectively.

Headlined by the Melbourne four-piece, I Love Life (notably, the same name of The Smith Street Band’s song, ‘I Love Life‘) will also feature the huge contingency of international artists including, Long Island anthemic rockers Iron Chic, rising Philadelphia bummer-punks Modern Baseball, Phoenix’s anti-folk idols Andrew Jackson Jihad, genre and format benders Self Defense Family, and Ohio power pop foursome The Sidekicks, who are all making their first trip down under.
In addition to this, emo outfit Oslow will perform both shows as Hannahband play their local Sydney and same for Brisbane’s Walken.
This is massive news for Poison City fans in both Sydney and Brisbane who have often needed to make the trip to Melbourne to bare witness to the brilliance of the heavier-rock festival that takes over multiple Melbourne venues each year.
Speaking of, 2015’s Poison City Weekend is poised for 4 – 6 September, boasting of the aforementioned list of international performers as well as a strong list of locals including, The Meanies, Deep Heat, Mere Women, Batpiss, The Sugarcanes and Georgia Maq and many more.
In what has been touted as its biggest year ever, organisers have set up a gig for under 18s as well as spreading shows out of over a number of treasured Melbourne venues including: 170 Russell Street, The Public Bar, Corner Hotel, The Old Bar and The Reverence Hotel.
