There isn’t another musical group in existence that understand the trials, tribulations and triumphs of having both male and females in a band better than Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie Nicks wouldn’t change it for the world.
The iconic songwriter recently spoke with Mojo, explaining that despite the turbulent ups and downs brought on by relationships ending and intimate affairs flaring between the five creatives, having both males and females working together is absolutely pivotal in making their best music, a sentiment she believes true for contemporary music, too.

Nicks flatly stated to the publication, “I think every band should have a girl in it, because it’s always going to make for cooler stuff going on than if it’s just a bunch of guys.”
She went on to link her declaration to present day Fleetwood Mac,“It was totally important and everybody is still writing about everybody else, it will never stop. Once you have that, even long after the couples are broken up, you still have that – when you sit down to write a couple of songs, that news from 100 years ago still creeps in.”
As any Fleetwood fan would know, none of the current five members are involved with each other they way they used to be, however it’s their shared incestuous history that keeps their music captivating, “It’s ultimately more romantic, no matter what” Nicks said, “Even if nobody is going together, it still casts a romantic spell.”
There’s strong merit in the ‘Landslide’ singer’s statement, the great acts of music often have been mixed genders, before Fleetwood Mac’s time there was The Velvet Underground, followed by the likes of new wavers Blondie or Talking Heads, to original ‘Kool Things’ Sonic Youth and even in today’s climate synth-rockers CHVRCHES and could forget our very own rising stars, The Preatures.
Fleetwood Mac will be casting their romantic magic spells on Aussie audiences later this year when they at long-last return for their epic tour, check out the dates below.
