If these The Durries, have crossed your radar lately it could have been because they’re potentially one of the cheekiest new ‘concept’ or ‘parody’ (whatever you prefer) bands coming out of Australia. If you haven’t figured it out yet, yes, all of their songs are about cigarettes.

What’s more, they’re a bonafide supergroup, comprised of eight members from Boss Moxi, Twin Haus, and Baskervillain. The Durries love durries, plain and simple and they don’t discriminate – just look at their catalog.

Their ever-expanding discography of tracks includes instant classics like ‘Winfield Blue’, ‘Port Royal’, and first single ‘Marlborough Gold’, which the band assures all have that same trademark quality as the darts they’re named after.

Recently however, they got themselves in a little bit of trouble for being ‘too commercial‘ to get on triple j unearthed, which did nothing but cement their reputation of being the next ‘band you have to know’.

They’re just released their brand new EP titled We Build Schools which is straight up good fun with an ironic twist – to celebrate its release, the guys gave us a track by track run down of the EP check it out below.

Ode To Brian

Ode To Brian Speaks for itself really. Just a regular dude, rich with the infamy that comes with being Australia’s biggest durry muncher. Harp and keys play homage to the plain packaged success story of Brian.

Malboro Gold

Malboro Gold Definitely not my favourite cigarette but for the many Australian’s that do enjoy necking back some goon and punishing a Marlboro Gold this was written for you.

BnH Smooth

BnH Smooth Everyone has a brand of cigarettes that started their dirty smoking habits. BnH Smooth happens to be mine, listen to the keys and the wall of guitars as the song comes to an end.

Lucky Strikes

Lucky Strikes Not a particularly enjoyable cigarette either but everyone knows that loosing all your money and cigarettes is rough, you’re prepared to approach the most questionable types of people in the hopes of obtaining a single cigarette. This particular person has a single Lucky Strike left and all I can do is sing about it.

Port Royal

Port Royal I’ve known a lot of people who smoke 50gm Port Royal pouches. I brought to light the issue of people smoking Port Royal any other time than when they were drinking. It’s a particular tobacco, enjoyable but unnecessary, you’d either have to be joke or a drunk to smoke it all the time. Ripping solo at the end of this jam.

Camel

Camel I’ve got a mate called Jeathe who went to Egypt thinking he’d find camel cigarettes there. Some local sent him through the desert in search for a durry. Jeathe’s no longer with us.

Winnie Blue

Winnie Blue I got the blues, the winnie blues, but those blues won’t bring me down. Feat. Breathe by Pink Floyd.
