As electronic dance music continues to surge in popularity around the world, an inevitable backlash has emerged. Nowhere is this backlash more potent or vehement than in Australia, which has a proud tradition of rock pigdom.

One of the most oft-targeted symbols of the dreaded EDM culture Down Under is Stereosonic, Australia’s premier electronic dance music event. The annual touring music festival brings the world’s biggest DJs Down Under and with it, legions of shirtless bros.

But as Rip It Up reports, a handful of South Australian rock fans have decided to take a stand against the creeping tide of bro-ism and “pill-popping jukeboxes” by staging an unofficial companion gig on the same day as Stereosonic Adelaide.

F@#k Stereo’s // Let’s Rock is set to take over Adelaide’s Fowler’s Live with a solid lineup of interstate and local favourites, each one of them decidedly un-Stereo, including Shihad frontman Jon Toogood, The Love Junkies, Flyying Colours, and more.

Joining them will be hard-working Sydney boys Lepers & Crooks, as well as some local muscle in the form of Mere Machine, Sons Of Zoku, and Slick Arnold. There’ll also be food trucks for when all that rock leaves you feeling a bit peckish.

After an afternoon BBQ, the first band will hit the stage at 5pm and the shindig plans on running till late. F@#k Stereo’s // Let’s Rock is an all ages event, however those under 18 will have to vacate by midnight due to licensing.

However, while this all sounds like fun times to your average Aussie rock fan, the folks over at Stereosonic certainly aren’t happy about it. According to a post on F@#k Stereo’s // Let’s Rock’s Facebook event page, they’ve already run afoul of Stereo organisers.

“A certain festival have placed a complaint (and obviously put the pressure on also) with Moshtix about our event name clashing with theirs when people search for their event,” F@#k Stereo’s // Let’s Rock organisers write.

“Moshtix have just dropped the S from Stereo’s (without my permission) so I am pulling the event off them and will be running with Oztix instead.” The event is still planned for Saturday, 5th December, with tickets available via Oztix.
