It’s fair to say that Melbourne singer songwriter Hayden Calnin has built a career on challenging convention. The release of his first two EPs saw the multi-instrumentalist explore folk, indie pop, electronic and ambient sounds, the results of which have helped him score US sync placements, festival slots and a shout out from Triple J as one of their ‘next crop artists’.
Since the release of those EPs Calnin has been crafting new sounds that though inspired by electronic artists has seen him delve more deeply into early childhood influences from his parents’ collection such as Fleetwood Mac and Counting Crows which has led him to revisit his first love—the guitar.
His latest single ‘White Night’ is a spectacular hybrid of where he’s been and where he’s going as an artist. Co-produced with Tim Carr (Matt Corby, The Herd, Muscles), the single has been given the remix treatment from Melbourne producer Thrupence, which you can check out below.
