With Tony Abbott no longer around to manufacture a culture of fear and keep our humble ticket promoters down, they can finally get back to the business of doing what they do best and that’s selling tickets.
As Tone Deaf has previously reported, Australian venues and promoters absolutely smash it on the world stage, with our homegrown promoters, venues, and acts ranking considerably high on respected surveys such as those completed by Pollstar.
In the latest list compiled by the US industry bible, Australian music industry veteran Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring was the most successful Australian promoter in the world in terms of tickets sales in the third quarter.
The magazine recently unveiled their list of the Top 100 promoters in the world. The list was, of course, topped by the monolithic Live Nation, who shifted 18.3 million tickets, with Frontier Touring coming in at #12 with 981,019.
As The Music Network reports, a total of six Australian promoters made the list: Nine Live at #35 with 353,948, Adrian Bohm Presents at #55 with 207,642, Chugg Entertainment at #59 with 197,483, Bluesfest Byron Bay at #63 with 175,414, and Dainty Group at #88 with 117,668 stubs.
In terms of venues, five Aussie institutions ranked among the Top 200 arenas in the world: Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena at #30 with 289,924, Perth Arena at #33 with 283,384, Sydney’s Allphone Arena at #51 (207,229), Qantas Credit Union Arena in Sydney at #56 (190,192), and Brisbane Entertainment Centre at #61 (177,989).
Australia’s outdoor and festival sites also ranked high, with Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium coming in at #23 (116,234), Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay at #30, Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium at #52 (73,632), Sydney’s Allianz Stadium at #63 (62,650), and at #80 was Sydney’s ANZ Stadium (51,131).

Melbourne absolutely dominated in the list of Top 100 Club Venues, with Melbourne’s Corner Hotel coming in at #14 with 87,780 stubs, followed by the Northcote Social Club at #93 (28,648), and Sydney sister venue the Newtown Social Club at #94 with 27,209.
Meanwhile, Melbourne’s iconic Palais Theatre was the sole Australian ranking in the list of Top 100 Theatres. Moving a grand total of 136,195 tickets during the third quarter placed the beloved venue at a very respectable #27 on the countdown.
In terms of the Top 100 Tours, Aussies made a couple of appearances, with Sydney’s 5 Seconds of Summer coming in at #44 after moving 355,673 tickets on their world tour, while 318,256 punters came out to see hard rock legends AC/DC, putting them at #4.
