The full program for Sydney Festival 2016 has been unveiled, with a stacked music lineup that even features a free launch gig headlined by none other than alt-rock legends The Flaming Lips.

The veteran psych-rockers will be headlining a free all-ages 2016 launch party as part of Summer Sounds in The Domain when they touch down next year for a string of Australian performances.

Looking at the rest of the Sydney Festival lineup, punters will be treated to performances from the likes of Dirty Three, Joanna Newsom, and a very special show featuring Jack Ladder, Kirin J Callinan, Donny Benét, and Laurence Pike.

Punters will also be treated to performances from the funky likes of DāM-FunK, Mercury Prize nominee Kate Tempest, indie buzz band Girlpool, and many more. And don’t forget all of the arts and culture attractions.

Sydney Festival 2016 is set to run from Thursday, 7th January until Tuesday, 26th January, with a lineup of some 157 events — including 89 that are completely free — featuring 902 artists from 22 countries.

If you’re heading down, multipack tickets are set to go on sale on Thursday, 22nd October. Single tickets go on sale Monday, 26th October. Head on over to the Sydney Festival website for more details.
