The holiday season is upon us, 2015 is packing its bags and getting ready to jet, and we can see 2016 fast approaching. Over at triple j, our beloved hosts are getting ready for some rest time, which means tying up all the loose ends still hanging.
One of those loose ends is Like A Version, which will also be taking a break until the new year and we can honestly say the last Like A Version cover of 2015 is also one of the best. In fact, it’s a shame we can’t vote for it in the triple j Hottest 100.
Australian rhyme-slinger Urthboy managed to recruit Bertie Blackman, Kira Puru, Hermitude, Tom Thum, and All Our Exes Live In Texas for his grand, uplifting cover of fellow Aussie Meg Mac’s ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves’.
2015 may well go down as one of the best years for Like A Version ever and many of the best covers have come from homegrown acts like Dorsal Fins, with their cover of Kate Ceberano’s ‘Pash’ and Art Vs Science’s rework of the Metallica classic ‘Enter Sandman’.
We’ve also seen some covers bound for this year’s Hottest 100, an alt-rock mash-up that blew us away, some ambitious takes on mega-tunes by the likes of FKA twigs, Jamie xx, and Fatboy Slim, as well as a raw take on a homegrown anthem.
