After teasing fans with the promise of new music, Flume has now unveiled ‘Never Be Like You’, the first single to be taken from his eagerly anticipated sophomore full-length effort, Skin.
The track is a collaboration between the golden boy of Aussie EDM and Canadian vocalist Kai, who’s previously worked with the likes of Diplo, Childish Gambino, and Jack Ü, and has penned hits for Janelle Monae and Rihanna.
“Kai and I were sending ideas back and forth online, then met up in NYC and went into the studio,” said Flume of the new track. “We laid down some chords and started an idea but weren’t feeling inspired. So we went out into the night for a few hours and when we returned, it all started to come together.”
Meanwhile, Kai said the song “comes from an extremely personal place”, adding, “It’s about a moment in my own life when everything was going really well and my inner saboteur tried to do what she does best.”
“At the end of the day we are all human and flawed and I felt like I needed to be as real and as candid as possible. I am absolutely in love with this song.” Readers can check out the tune below and look out for Flume’s new album later this year.
